| L'ARCHE GREATER VANCOUVER |
| |
L'Arche Greater Vancouver is a non-profit organization
dedicated to creating homes and day programs in which people with and without
developmental disabilities live, work and discover faith together. We live
together as an intentional community. |
| |
With
over 30 years of experience in fostering inclusion, understanding and belonging,
L'Arche is committed to the physical, spiritual and emotional growth of men and
women living in our homes and those sharing their lives with each other.
Each year L'Arche welcomes young people from many cultures and countries to live,
work and be involved in our homes and day programs. This is often a
transformative experience that serves as a foundation for their future. |
| |
L'Arche
Greater Vancouver is part of an International Federation. Today, there are 355
houses in 124 communities in 30 countries. L'Arche provides nearly 200 small
homes and day program settings across Canada.
Founded in France in 1964 by Jean Vanier, the son of Canadian Governor-General
Georges Vanier, the ecumenical and interfaith communities of L'Arche began in
response to the needs of people with developmental disabilities to find a valid
place in society. While founded in a Roman Catholic context, today we are
ecumenical and interreligious and welcome people of all faiths. |
 |
|
“Can we reasonably have a dream of a world where people, whatever their race,
religion, culture, abilities, or disabilities, whatever their education or
economic situation, whatever their age or gender, can find a place and reveal
their gifts?”

Saturday, October 17, 2009
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
National Nikkei Museum & Heritage Centre
6688 Southoaks Cres. (Burnaby, BC)
This unique, signature event will bring together emerging artists, respected judges, sponsors, friends of L’Arche and the general public, all in support of L’Arche and celebrating “togetherness.” Ten emerging artists will be invited to submit a piece that will use the theme of “The Art of Being Together” as its inspiration. The works of art will be displayed at the venue on the day of the event to be reviewed by respected judges (UBC, SFU and Emily Carr) and the general public. At the end of the day there will be two awards presented, the “People’s Choice” and “Judges’ Choice.” The general public will pay a nominal entry fee to view the pieces, vote on their favourites and participate in making a piece of art together. This “community” art piece will be guided by artists from L’Arche and art students and presented to the City of Burnaby at the end of the event. Additionally, artwork by artists at L’Arche will be on display and silent auction of donated art and other items will also be held.
