The Art of Being Together Planning Team

L’Arche Greater Vancouver is recruiting people to help plan and execute our Third Annual Art of Being Together scheduled for March 10, 2011. We are looking for artists and others who enjoy planning special events to make this unique event an even bigger success. In the past this team has met twice a month on Friday mornings until mid-January and then meets more often as the event nears.

Neighbours Helping Neighbours

L’Arche Greater Vancouver is currently seeking volunteers for our Neighbours Helping Neighbours (NHN) program. NHN is a team of 3 men with developmental disabilities under the direction of one supervisor. You would become part of this outreach program which assists local senior citizens with jobs that become more challenging as they age, such as lawn and yard maintenance, fence repairs, debris clean up and recycling. This is an opportunity to help the men in the program achieve their vocational goals as well as helping seniors in the wider community who could use a helping hand.

Applicants must be:

Male and over the age of 25 (to meet the support needs of the program participants).
Physically, mentally and emotionally fit.
Available to fill one or more vacancies for Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Hours needed are from 9am-12pm, 1pm-3:30pm or all day from 9am-3:30pm.
Able to successfully pass a criminal record check and a TB test.
No experience is necessary, but previous experience assisting adults with developmental disabilities is an asset.

Solidarity Committee

The Solidarity Committee of L’Arche Greater Vancouver is seeking two or three volunteers to help organize and execute 2-3 fundraising events that include a concert and movie night. Prospective volunteers should be willing to commit to 3-4 hours per month, including monthly meetings, usually held on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons, and to work collaboratively in a group of people with and without developmental disabilities. We ask for a commitment of one year.

This is an ongoing committee with a mission to raise funds for the support of L’Arche communities caring for people with developmental disabilities in the developing countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Applicants must be:

Over the age of 19 (to meet the support needs of the other committee participants).
Mentally and emotionally mature
Able to successfully pass a criminal record check and a TB test.
No experience is necessary, but previous experience assisting adults with developmental disabilities is an asset.
A knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is an asset but not a necessity
